Why is mi-pad different to other eco-homes?

Like many other sustainable homes, mi-pad has a lot of clever environmentally friendly – and cost-efficient – features. It can generate its own energy, it can collect and treat water, it can recondition the air inside and it’s even made from recyclable materials. But it’s also round, for many reasons.

With the patent of mi-technology it allows us to develop square or rectangular structures too.

Sense of space

Sense of space

No one wants to live or work in a windowless box. As sociable beings, our eyes are naturally drawn to the outside world. Windows in traditional four-walled homes create 2D-like images.

On the curved walls of mi-pad, they create an almost continuous view – a vista – which, together with the circular structure itself, makes the living space feel bigger than it is.

Light & warmth

Light & warmth

Unlike a four-walled house, mi-pad receives sunlight from all compass points during the day. Its continuous façade means there is a constant transfer of heat throughout the house.

And with 20% less external surface for the same footage as a four-walled house, mi-pad loses 20% less heat and uses 20% less materials. This natural insulation is boosted by polyurethane foam, far exceeding regular house standards.

Ten thousand years ago, round houses were all the rage – and not by accident. A circular building is like a barrel: extremely strong around its entire perimeter. mi-pad spreads its comparatively modest weight of 35 tonnes very efficiently, helped along by floor joists shaped like bicycle spokes and a triangular steel centre or pylon, helping to share the load via a specially designed screw-pile system that can hold 350 tonnes.

What’s more, this unique structure affords the floor plan the flexibility to be divided a number of different ways.
